Conduit to Capital Process

Conduit2Capital is uniquely positioned to assist companies that meet the following:

  • A business that is headquartered in Colorado
  • Entrepreneurial company with a high growth potential
  • A management team that can execute and persevere, or a willingness to recruit such a team
  • A company with a completed business plan including financials
  • A company where the products or service is innovative - usually characterized by intellectual property
  • A company with a compelling "investment opportunity" and a clear exit

The Process

Step 1 - Application

Complete the Conduit2Capital online application.  You must fill out the application - we do not accept emailed business plans.

You will receive an email confirming receipt of your application.  Your application will be reviewed to ensure you meet the meet our initial critieria.  You will receive an email back from us in 1 week with our assessment.  In the interim, you may be contacted if we have any questions.

Should your opportunity not be a good match, in many cases we will refer you to other funding sources based on your needs and the nature of your business.

Step 2 - The Pre-Screen

Once you have been accepted  you are asked to submit your business plan and an executive summary.  These documents are forwarded to an Executive Director of one of our affiliated CTEK Venture Centers for review.  Our Executive Directors have worked with hundreds of companies seeking investment and have keen insight into the investors' appetites.  Directors work with the entrepreneur to identify weaknesses in the company, business plan, and presentation in order to increase the chances of success with investors.

After reviewing, the Executive Directors make recommendations to CTEK about which companies should be presented at the Deal Screen.   The Executive Directors may also contact you with questions and may make suggestions on what may need to be done to make your company more appealing and successful in our funding process.

Step 3 - Deal Screen

Prior to presenting before the CTEK Angels, a company is "screened."  The objective of the Deal Screen is to ensure the presentation meets the CTEK Angels investment criteria and to provide the entrepreneur with valuable feedback on how to improve their pitch to most effectively address an Angel investor audience.

The Deal Screen takes place at CTEK Central 1625 Broadway, Suite 950, Denver, CO 80202 and is held on the second Monday of each month.   There is a $250 fee for the Deal Screen review.

The Deal Screen consists of a committee review of your investor presentation.  The committee is comprised of CTEK's affiliate venture center Executive Directors, CTEK Angels, and CTEK partners and staff.

You will give an 8 minute "fast pitch" presentation which is followed by an 8 minute interactive Q&A session with the screening committee.

You will be evaluated on (and as a result your presentation should cover) the following:

  • Market identification and strategy
  • Financial/business model
  • "The deal" (what's in it for the investor/exit strategy)
  • Management team (is this the right team to get it done)
  • Overall Presentation

Following your presentation, the Deal Screen Committee determines if you are prepared to advance to the CTEK Angels meeting the following week (3rd Tuesday of each month).   Each company is provided with candid feedback from the Deal Screen Committee, in most cases within 48 hours.  The feedback and process notification is communicated via email.  You are encouraged to review your feedback with your assigned Venture Center Executive Director.

Step 4 - CTEK Angels Investor Presentation

The CTEK Angels meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every month (except August and December).  The meeting locations vary and are held at the offices of a CTEK Sponsor.

In order to present to the CTEK Angels you must first sign our CTEK Angels Fee Agreement and submit a $500 CTEK Angels meeting fee.   CTEK collects "success fees" from companies who have secured funding via CTEK or CTEK Angel introductions.

*** All companies advancing to the CTEK Angels meeting round are required to review and complete this agreement with CTEK before presenting before the CTEK Angels. NO EXCEPTIONS.

At the meeting you will again give an 8-minute "fast-pitch" presentation to the CTEK Angels followed by an 8 minute inter-active question and answer with the CTEK Angel members.  The goal of your presentation is provide some key information to pique their interest enough for them to dig deeper into your business and business plans.

Following the CTEK Angel meeting you will be provided a written feedback summary on your presentation from the CTEK Angels.   In addition, you will be given contact information for the CTEK Angel members who have expressed interest in learning more about your company and the opportunity.  Typically, if an Angel investor expresses initial interest  a longer meeting with the company will take place at a later date set by the angel themselves (there are no additional charges for any follow-on meetings or activities).

Step 5 - Closing of Investment Funding

Once you have solicited interest from at least one of our CTEK Angels you are assigned a Conduit2Capital Investment Facilitator.  The Facilitator works with the interested Angels to identify a lead CTEK Angel investor.  The lead investor will coordinate follow-on meetings and will keep the rest of the CTEK Angels updated on the progress.  During this time, due diligence will be performed through our partnership with University of Colorado Law Clinic.

If for whatever reason you do not close on investment from CTEK Angels, the Conduit2Capital Investment Facilitator will introduce you to other potential funding sources that might be a better fit based on your needs and the nature of your business.
